Tacloban City [November, 2008] – Tacloban City Mayor Alfred Romualdez will lead today, November 14, the inauguration of the multi-million Balyuan Park Amphitheater.
This was according to Sangyaw Foundation President Alex Montejo, who also disclosed that the said occasion would include the launching of the foundation’s programs and projects, and the awarding of Taclobanons who have distinguished themselves in the field of Arts.
Montejo said that the program will start with the ceremonial cutting of the ribbon. It will be followed by the blessing of the amphitheater to be presided by Rt. Rev. Msgr. Ben Bacierra.
Mayor Romualdez will follow next with his message.
After his message, the mayor, assisted by Montejo, will present plaques of recognition to three outstanding artists from this city.
The three awardees are world-famous choreographer Douglas Nierras of Powerdance fame, Leyte Kalipayan Dance Company executive director and choreographer Teresita Veloso-Pil, and noted poet and author Leonor Almeria.
Musical and dance presentations to be rendered by the Musika Sentra String Consort, Leyte Kalipayan Dance Company, Leyte Dance Theater, and cultural contingents from the Leyte Normal University (LNU) and the Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) will wrap up the program.
Also expected to grace the event, which will start around 5 p.m., are city councilors to be laed by Councilor Cristina Gonzales-Romualdez, regional directors and other invited guests.
The Balyuan Amphitheater, a modern, first-of-its kind infrastructure in the region, was completed after more than a month construction work. The P10 million project is intended as the venue of various events, primarily cultural presentations, to be staged in the city.
